At 28 I had a baby and a broken heart
Condolences appreciated but don't go that far
The mornings are the worst, waking up remembering
My brother isn't here again, the space is like an elephant

An easier way to do grief is to pretend he's
Just asleep or on a beach somewhere with no reception
But that don't do him justice
I show his value to me in tears, to bring him up in

While I'm learning life without him, he's observing
The new earth, his was a life purchased from the furnace
A firm grip on this hope, I build an altar
Thanking God for his life and impact and teach my daughter
That her uncle was the man and that she'll meet him
