We're so happy today to have Thomas Rhett joining us in the studio

There are a few songs on this album that have a nostalgic feel to them, uh
Like smooth, like the summer renegades, and this is another one
And to me this almost has sort of like if Sade and Maroon 5 got together
For a song about summer romance (yeah)
You'd end up with "Gateway Love" so talk to me about this song

This song was written at 2:00 in the morning in Charleston, South Carolina on a writer's retreat
And we had been doing nothing but writing for four days
Everybody's brains are just French toast (sure)
We can't make words around with each other anymore
But I remember my buddy Sean Douglas who was a cowriter on "Die a Happy Man" in vacation
Got up on the piano, and it was me and this girl named Emily Weisband
And a guy named Sam Ellis
And we're all just sitting in the living room everybody I think had gone to bed and, uh

Sean started playing this
And Sam goes
Like that super Latin beat
Yeah and um, Sean had the title called "Gateway Love" and when he said it
It was probably because it was late, and my mind was already exhausted
I was like, "That's amazing" uhm, 'cause of gateway drug but not gateway drug, gateway love
You totally got it as soon as he said it
Yeah, it just, like we have to write it right now, um, and it was just all about, gosh

I can remember being in seventh grade just falling for the most attractive girl in my grade
And she liked me for two days and then dropped me for someone who was much
Bigger, stronger and cooler than I was
And I think we've all been in that scenario
Where we've been a stepping stone for somebody to get to the next step of where they wanna go
That's just kinda like my chill, Latin infused, dance, country song which makes zero sense

I-I love it, I thought it felt good, I was, yeah, grooving to it

Wir freuen uns sehr, heute Thomas Rhett im Studio begrüßen zu dürfen

Wir bekommen seine Sicht auf alle Songs des Albums und spielen auch alle Songs.
Und dieser nächste heißt "Gateway Love".
Es gibt ein paar Songs auf diesem Album, die ein nostalgisches Gefühl haben, ähm,
so sanft, wie die Sommerabtrünnigen, und das ist noch einer.
Und für mich hat das fast so etwas, wie wenn Sade und Maroon 5 sich zusammentun würden,
für einen Song über Sommerromanze (ja).
Du würdest mit "Gateway Love" enden, also sprich mit mir über diesen Song.

Dieser Song wurde um 2:00 Uhr morgens in Charleston, South Carolina, auf einem Autoren-Retreat geschrieben.
Und wir hatten vier Tage lang nichts anderes gemacht als geschrieben.
Jedermanns Gehirn ist einfach nur French Toast (sicher).
Wir können keine Worte mehr miteinander wechseln.
Aber ich erinnere mich, mein Kumpel Sean Douglas, der ein Co-Autor von "Die a Happy Man" im Urlaub war,
setzte sich ans Klavier, und da waren ich und dieses Mädchen namens Emily Weisband
und ein Typ namens Sam Ellis.
Und wir sitzen alle im Wohnzimmer, ich glaube, alle anderen waren schon ins Bett gegangen, und ähm,

Sean fing an, das zu spielen.
Und Sam macht
so einen super Latin-Beat.
Ja und ähm, Sean hatte den Titel "Gateway Love" und als er ihn sagte,
war es wahrscheinlich, weil es spät war und mein Kopf schon erschöpft war.
Ich dachte: "Das ist fantastisch", ähm, wegen Gateway-Droge, aber nicht Gateway-Droge, Gateway-Liebe.
Du hast es sofort verstanden, als er es sagte.
Ja, es war einfach so, wir müssen es sofort schreiben, ähm, und es ging nur darum, Gott,

Ich kann mich erinnern, dass ich in der siebten Klasse war und mich in das attraktivste Mädchen meiner Klasse verliebte.
Und sie mochte mich zwei Tage lang und ließ mich dann für jemanden fallen, der viel
größer, stärker und cooler war als ich.
Und ich denke, wir waren alle schon mal in dieser Situation,
wo wir ein Sprungbrett für jemanden waren, um zur nächsten Stufe zu gelangen, wo er hin will.
Das ist einfach so mein chilliger, Latin-inspirierter, Dance-Country-Song, der überhaupt keinen Sinn ergibt.

Ich-ich liebe es, ich fand, es fühlte sich gut an, ich war, ja, ich habe dazu gegroovt.
