春 高楼の 花の宴

Moon over the Ruined Castle

Spring flowers bloom in the castle tower
As the sake is passed in the fading light
Under the ancient pine branches

Where is the splendor of old?

Autumn frosts paint the battlefield
As geese fly overhead in formation
And swords gleam in the moonlight
Where is the glory of old?

Now the moon shines on the ruined castle
Its light unchanged, but for whom does it shine?
Only ivy clings to the crumbling walls
And the wind whispers through the pines

The moon above may never change
But the rise and fall of empires is the way of the world
And so, perhaps, the moon still shines
Oh, moon over the ruined castle, in the dark of night
