Something was going on, it was crystal clear
There was the establishment also known as them
We knew exactly what we were against, we were against them
So it was us against them, they were on the inside of the rock
And we were on the front of it, in the middle they were
It was inevitable, there had to be a confrontation
There was an invitation for it to ripse
A little us against them, violent protests here and there
Little scandals, the larger we grew the
Desperate and the more of us we were
And you know what they got with that too, that was right
But we were wrong, the confrontation finally came
It was at the union hall, so-called union hall in Chicago
They hit us, they hit us hard, they hit us
With the biggest shatters that they could have
They threw bricks, we assembled for our slogans
Our banners, our songs, our standards
They hit us with their automobiles, with their
Tanks, their tear gas and their canisters
And we fought them, they hit women, they hit children, they hit men
They hit students, they hit longhairs and shorthairs alike
They hit all of us, they hit anything that moved, and we did not move
And then they shot us, at the Chicago Union Hall
They hit us where we stood, and we shot them where they could not
And we stood up, and we made a bet, we embarrassed them
And then the confrontation came, and the face of
War, the episode of winning it finally arrived
And there they were, and there we were, and you can see that
And along came my eldest, and he led me and two other five men
And as we led the courage, we had shown them faith
And my eldest was the head of the group, and he was strong
The establishment said "ok, we'll make a compromise
This is what we'll do for our hard times
You can have your long hair and you can have your crazy clothes
You can have your marijuana, cigarettes
But you get your candy asses off our streets
We'll have the war, but we'll end it in good time
And it'll be our time, not yours, now go home"
And we went back inside with our goddamn tail
Between our legs and it pissed me right off
But nobody wanted any more confrontations
Everybody wanted to let their scars heal
Rest, forget the humiliation
