Zachariah and Elizabeth
Zachariah loved God. He worked in God's temple
His wife, Elizabeth, also loved God. Zachariah
And Elizabeth were very old and had no children
One day, the angel Gabriel came to the
Temple. He wanted to speak to Zachariah
The angel said, "Great news! You and Elizabeth will have
A baby. You will call the baby John. God's Holy Spirit
Will fill him, and he will grow up to be a special man."
Zachariah said, "How can I believe you?"
The angel Gabriel said, "You will not be able to
Talk to anyone until the baby is born. If that
Happens, then you will know I told you the truth."
Zachariah could not speak when he came out of the temple. He
Could only move his hands to show what he was trying to say
And then, the baby was born —to Zachariah and Elizabeth! People
Wanted the baby to be named Zachariah, like his father. But Zachariah
Said no. He remembered what the angel Gabriel had said to him
Zachariah wrote down the name "John" for the baby. And as soon as
He did this, he could talk again. Zachariah gave thanks to God
